Of Tanks and Jump Packs

Welcome Win fans!!!

I present a couple of new units for you guys, I know ive been away from you for abit. Im sorry. Real life has been busy at the mo, but you cant stop the hobby!! Just slow it down a bit.

First up, Ive finished a Rhino!! Its only taken me about a year to get round to finishing it. Ho hum.

I think that despite the fact that Rhinos are not that exciting, if you stick a big symbol on the top they can look fantastic. This simple Tactical arrow was made using masking tape. First marking out a triangle at the top with Astronomican Grey and then a rectangle joining once the triangle was dry. Then thin layers of white were built up til I was happy.

Next Ive added 5 more Assault Marines to the 10 I have already. These were done to be added to either of the 5 man squads I already have, so there is no Sarg and the Special weapon has been magnetised for flexibility.

This squad was made from spare old metal figs I had laying around, Death Company and old 2nd ED Assault Marines. And arms from the Chaos, Death Company and Assault Marine sprues.

All 15 of my Assault Flesh Tearers.

Right, Im moving house in the next couple of weeks but I wont let that stop me!! Im off to plan, strip, make, paint a Multi-Back....

May your Die come up sixes and you never Get Hot!

You wouldnt like me when im Angry...

WELCOME WIN FANS!!!

I come bearing angels, mostly of the angry variety, some more angry than others, but I shall begin with a Lord of Angels.

I say angels, I should be saying Flesh Tearers really. This is my Captain for my fledgling army. Im basing my force on the Flesh Tearers 1st Company, mainly because the company badge for them is a white skull which I like the look of and the way it matches in with the rest of the colour scheme for them. And I read somewhere that they dont have a dedicated Veteran Company as theres not enough of them!! They are organised more like space wolf great companies instead. Each of the 4 remaining companies with its own veterans and scouts.
His left arm is from the Ultramarines captain, Right from a Terminator, Right pad from the chaos kit to match the left. Head from the deathwatch kit, chest and back from the commander kit and his Jump pack from the Death Company Kit, oh and legs off an Assault Marine!! The jump pack is magnetised so I can run him in a rhino if I want to instead.
The base is weighted with a penny and he is reasonably stable, although im not entirely convinced he isnt slowly falling off. Still its been a few days so i might be imagining it!!

Now to get a bit more Angry!!

You may remember my love for second edition. Well when I played many years ago, one of my favourite characters was Mephiston, and the Mini was awesome too. Well unfortunatly that awesome mini is now one of the few that I think havnt aged well. He is too small and too static in his pose for me. But his background and rules still are awsome. But he wouldnt fit in a Flesh Tearers army, oh what to do!?

Then I saw the angry looking Librarian with the Force Axe in my codex and I knew what had to be done.

When Librarians feel the rage!! A Death Company Librarian!! Mephistons stats and rules are pretty apt for a Lib in the grip of the Rage. So thats what I will prob run this guy as, a cheap option is to run him as a Lib and join the DC. Or I could even just take him as a DC with power wep and Plasma pistol if I really needed to.

Now speaking of Death Company, something I came to realise is that to run my Chap dread as DC Dread I needed 5 DC marines. Now when I built mine I bashed one about and made him a chaplain so I only had 4. OH NO!! So i dug around my bits box and came up with this chap to also join my DC.

The DC were lacking a bit of heavy punch so he got given a power fist from the command sprue (I think) and since he wouldnt get a bonus for an extra CC weapon, but could rapid fire on the charge (since DC are relentless) I gave him a bolter too. Eagle eyed readers will notice that he is an old metal DC. Never throw anything away!!

And since we are on the topic of Death Company, I thought it only fair to show of the rest of the gang.

This next guys my fav so he gets 2 pics!!

And the afore mentioned chaplain.
Head from a chaos marine, Crozius bashed from spares. I painted his Back pack totem to be like the Flesh Tearer symbol.
You cant see it but he has a FT citadel shoulder pad too.

And the whole gang together.

Hope you enjoyed!!

Marching Sternly onwards

Welcome Fans of Win!!

You'll remember a couple of weeks ago I painted up a five man squad of Sternguard, well now Ive completed the squad. Happy Smiley!! I had to reverse a previous decision and rip of the Deathwatch bolters from these 5, and convert up 5 Combi-Meltas instead for the chaps.

So without anymore delay here is now the whole squad of 10.

Note the sarg now has his helmet painted red with the white stripe as voted by you lovely people!!

3 of the combi weapons were converted with a boltgun for the base, with the barrel from a Space Crusade multi melta

2 of them were made from metal meltaguns  with the addition of boltgun bits underneath, i think these look better to be honest but more expensive of course!!

This gut is my fav, I tried my hand at hand painting the fist symbol on his tabbard for the first time and im quite chuffed with the result.

Got a game tommorrow against Rob, so hopefully these guys will kick some traitor butt!!

THE NAKED RHINO!! (or, oops im late to pick up the missus!!)

WELCOME WIN FANS!! (Yes, Both of you!!)
My Fleshtearers have a new addition this week!!

I present to you, the naked Rhino!!

But this naked little beauty has some hidden tricks, for one, she can dress in fancy Fleshtearer Livery, like so!!

I hand painted the symbols on, well, not the little blood angel ones that come with the kit, i just added spikey bits to them.

Also, naked rhino can wear an interesting looking hat...

And can also sport such accessories as the latest in anti personnel weaponry, ideal for those party nights out in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium!!

The side sponson weapons have to share the cover that you see here with the wing on. This is easily swapped over as they were not glued on. I blue tacked them instead!! ha ha simple solutions. Bet you thought i was going to say magnets!!

Also, for those times when you simply need to burn something, we can go flamer pred instead!!

So the Main guns are magnetised to the front of the turret under the (not glued in place) weapon cover (bit with golden wings on) the rear ammo hoppers are magnetised to the back of the turret.
The top armour plate and rhino top hatch doors are not glued or magnetised as gravity does a good enough job here. (well done gravity!) Side sponsons and side doors are magnetised to the inner door using bits of sprue as spacers so the magnets can get contact. The side guns are not actually magnetised to the sponsons as they just click in and out of place easily anyway.

I love this tank, a bit of forward planning when constructing it and painting it as it was built has made the job so much easy and a good finish if I say so my self.

The paint job is typical of my Fleshteaers, a bright red spray with a couple of not carefully applied washes of purple give them a dark, dirty, been at war with out break. kinda feel to them. Which is how i see them. Brutal.

I tried to go for a bit of a lighting effect inside, with the cabin lit up from the glow of the control pad. Its quite quick to do and since i could be taking it apart in front of people i didnt want a horrible naked interior ruining my pretty tank!!

Here is a quick guide to painting the fleshtearer symbol, i dont claim to be the best painter but if it helps someone then job done!!

I painted the wholeof the middle of the doors white, then used a terminator base to mask off an area and painted round it black

Then i used a normal base to mask off what was going to be the round bit (pic1)

Then i painted 4 black lines at the compass points, then 2 more between each point.

Pint diagonal lines between the top of each line to the bottom of the previous one, make sure they all go one direction!!

Making sure they are all going the right way, paint in the top half of the sections in the background colour. In this case balck.

And you end up with the buzzsaw.
Now mark out a up side down cross and use this as a reference point for the blood drop.

Jobs a goodun!!!

Now, i wonder if you can use these magnetised assault cannons on a razorback................

WIP No More!!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!

HE is finished!!

After a couple of weeks grabbing painting time here and there ive finished mr Chaplain Dread. Otherwise known as Brother Dominius. Ive labored on about his weapons and magnetisations in previous posts so I shall just let you enjoy the photos.

A pic angled so you can see his Seismic Hammer, to be honest im not completely happy with it. I tried to make it look like the Forgeworld one cos i think the GW on looks weird but its not come off great. Ideally ill redo it and make it look a bit more actually hammery!!

And from the front.  Whats that I hear you say, you thought it was gonna be non chapter specific and theres a dirty great yellow banner on top? Well, your correct, but we have no problems here at Win, only solutions...

And the solutions are normally MAGNETS!! I magnetised the banner base so that he could fit in with whatever army. And also so that my opponent would know if he was facing a Furioso like above.

Or a Death Company dread like this one!! Note also that the right hand is magnetised and now sports a tasty Blood Fist/Talon. Happy days!!

A special mention to Sonic (of GW Necron Tomb Stalker fame) for allowing me to have a Crimson Wing Plague Marine on the base. Happy Smiley!

Just another quicky, played against Rob and his brand new Orks from Da red ones go fasta.

The pic below shows my thin yellow line crumpling before his green and red tide on turn 3 i think. He eventually tabled me in turn 5 and won 10VP to 6VP. A brutal combat lasting for about 3 turns involving Lysander full tactiacal squad and 8 van guard against a warboss and loads of Nobz was the highlight, after fluffing 3 rounds of combat lysander got his act together and killed the warboss but by then the rest of the marines were dead and more orks and another warboss came up behind him. Squish. Oh lysanders dead, AGAIN!!

Brilliant game though.
Now, off to play with a can of red spray paint....

Warning - Chaplain in Progress!!

Good day Cans of Win fans!!

As I said last week im now working on a forgeworld Chaplain Dreaddy.

Now, I want to use this guy with both my Imperial Fists and Fleshtearers, so ive had to be a little bit creative with load out, construction and painting.

The Vanilla Ironclad, which it will be in my fists, has one Powerfist and a Seismic Hammer, or if I want to use it as a Venerable then a heavy weapon. where as the Furioso or Death Company Dread have 2 Power Fists or Talons. How do we do this, Im sure you know the answer, MAGNETS!!! (I love em)

Now all the different dreads have the option to swap out the storm bolter for a heavy flamer, and i intend for this guy to spend a lot of time close to the enemy. Also all the dreads hve one Power Fist, so the weapon load out for the left arm was set.

Right arm is where all the mods have been made. The Ironclad, and Fleshtearers all come with a melta gun, but the venerable wouldnt. Som the right arm needed to be magnetised and the fist also needed to be set to receive either a fist or Seismic hammer.

Some of the bits ive used, cadian flamer, meltagun, a random bit of kit and the already removed fist from the dread.

The heavy flamer, carefully butchered up and glued underneath. note the tube has been cut off and re positioned.

The magnets for the right hand fist, 2mm wide, 1mm depth, hand drilled with a 2mm drill bit.

And the same magnets used to secure the right arm to allow for a venerable option at a future time.

Oh my, whats this plague marine doing here on the dreddys base....

The big guy himself, lots of finishing touches to do but well on his way, hopefully ill have a finshed photo for you soon.
Note the lack of chapter specific icons etc, i need to make sure he doesnt look too bare so plenty of general imperial icons will be getting added soon.

Sternly Stubborn

Submitted for your approval!!
5 Sternguard finally finished.

Im quite chuffed with these considering I just threw them together from spare bits and rescued marine legs in a rush to have some stern guard for a game ages ago. As ive mentioned before, im quite tight and skint. Both these things are great motivators of creativity!!

The eagle eyed amongst you will spot parts from the deathwatch kit, crimson fist and imperial fist kits as well as the Black templar kit too.

All their Bolters are from the death watch kit as I wanted them to stand out abit.

Deathwatch veteran and friend.

Note the Templar helmet, looks awesome in white, wish i had more.

And of course you'll remember old sarg from before, now with added back pack!!

I cant quite decide how to paint his helmet, I quite like the old style red with the white stripe but the new codex says red laurels. Hmmmm....

The gang all together!

A note on painting white.
Its all about layers, although personally I think I went abit crazy!!

My technique for these was

1. Astronomican Grey
2. White with a lot of Astro Grey
3.Astro grey with a lot of white
4. 2 layers of watered down Skull white.

I think I could have done it with out the first 2 levels, definitely with out the first one. But it is so important to let the layers dry completely between coats.

Speaking of which, think the last layer on my Chaplain dread should be dry by now.........

STOP PRESS!!

Poor old Sternguard, whenever they make their way onto my painting table they always get bumped off for something cooler!!

I love the chaplain dread model and picked this guy up cheap on Ebay with my birthday money, THANKS NAN!!

Such a cool model, I want to make him a centre piece for both my Imperial Fists and my Flesh Tearers so Im gonna have to be a bit clever with the paint job and some little conversions. I have a cunning plan that is more cunning than a cunning skaven that should result in me being able to use him as an Ironclad, Death Company or Furioso. And potentially a venerable too but I never use them anyway cos the points is waaaaay too much!

But first, back to the Sternguard, I will finish them, I will!!

Love for the 2nd Time

2nd Edition, remembered fondly by many. Ah the good old days. When we had more hair and a disposable income worthy of note. Enough of that gooey stuff, Ive a bit of a collection of guys from around that time and find myself wanting to include them in the army, despite the differences in scale with marines form that time. Here is a glimpse at some of them, hopefully it will give you ideas how to use your old miniatures too!

Grey Knights Librarian. Painted this guy to sell him on Ebay. Quite proud of the work on his shoulder pad.

Deathwatch Apothecary, for when I use my Deathwatch as a command squad.

Centurius, awesome 100th Store opening figure, I bought this bad boy new myself. Now my Legion of the Damned Sergeant. I use his skull thing as a power weapon.

Wolf Scout Sergeant from my old old Space Wolves army, an awesome model. I use him as Sergeant Telion to do this old model some justice.

Old 2nd Ed scouts, think you can still buy these form GW.

Old solid metal Dreaddy with a few additions, donated by a friend. Stripped, re glued and repainted.

Ooo, first glimpse of my Fleshtearers, this is a mix from my two assault squads of all the old metal minis.

And a classic old Tactical Sergeant. I figured this distinguished mini needed a suitable role in my army so he will be my Sternguard Sergeant. Which leads me nicely on to my next post.
